| For over two years, the second floor of Somerset Roller Mills has been where professional artist Sam Dahl has been reinventing the still life painting. No longer bound by the rectangle, Mr. Dahl has been allowing objects to define their own space and thereby establish an intimacy often missing in the conventional still life. Curved surfaces, triangles, and irregular quadrilaterals abound in his often unframed and unframable works, which also include the human figure. Since Mr. Dahl paints on shaped wood panels, his atelier includes a woodworking area, as well as painting and drawing studios, and a photography wall for producing images for his website: www.samueldahl.com Adjacent to Mr. Dahl's atelier is an exhibition foyer, where his works can be viewed by appointment, or by visitors to the third-floor studio. |
