One of two dams that are known to have existed on the site. The dam seen here is thought to have been constructed at the turn of the 19th century by Richard Lott. The original dam is believed to have been more than 1000 feet closer to the mill, however what remains may be left, are no longer detectable to the casual observer. To be sure, these remains are the anchor point located high up on the bank terminating suddenly just before the creek which runs perpendicular to this run of dry-laid masonry. While this wall may not appear to be convincingly high for a dam, it is worth noting that after 1838 this dam was likely abandoned because of a grant of water derived from the adjacent canal. Thus, there is more than a century and a half of forest debris strewn over what once may have been a more robust structure.
